Just before John Henry was led off the airplane, he and his life-long companion, groom Jose Mercado shared a moment. Mercado wiped tears from his eyes as he said "good bye my friend." He then led John Henry from the jet to a truck that took the famed race horse to a Kentucky Horse Park where he stood in retirement.
