Costa’s hummingbird has a green back and brilliant violet crown and throat. The throat has distinctive streamers down the side of the neck. The bird is distinguished by its slightly smaller, 3-inch size. The female Costa’s hummingbird is smaller than the male and has a lighter gray underside than the female Anna’s hummingbird. The call is a high-pitched metallic tink.
