Winged Victory of Samothrace...© Gordon Beck...The Winged Victory of Samothrace statue (c. 2nd century BC) has been called the "greatest masterpiece of Hellenistic sculpture." It is prominently displayed in the Louvre Museum, Paris, France, and is one of the most celebrated sculptures in the world. The statue is of Nike, the Greek goddess of victory and is original to the era and not a Roman copy, one of the few surviving large statues from the Hellenistic period. Prints available. Click image.
