Finnish Karelian family, ca. 1945, of Alpo Rautia, evacuated from Karelia as a result of the Second World War, has been allocated land and is now building a homestead into the forest in Askola, Southern Finland. In many cases, including this family, the homestead was but a plot of forest. The house needed to be built and the fields had to be cleared by the family. Note the fir tree which has been left standing by the house. - Finland - Finnish horse
