In 1993, an arsonist destroyed my father's nearly 100-year-old family dry cleaning business. Many family heirlooms were lost, e.g., a suit that my great grandfather had made while working as a tailor. Digging through the charred remains, a box of safety pins was found. My late mother took the safety pins and that 1993 Christmas crafted ornaments, using both the safety pins and colorful beads. She then gave each of her five children the unique ornaments in remembrance of the fire.
