Dress, circa 1885, English or Australian, sold by David Jones & Co., Sydney. Australian merino wool and cream lace. Tight-fitting boned and lined bodice Voluminous skirt made for bustle. Main panel is hand-shirred at yoke & hem, and is pleated & smocked w/heavy boning to keep tunnel shape. Top skirt/apron draped over underskirt panel and finished with lace panels, creating layers of multiple flounces and frills. National Museum, Australia, & Australian Dress Register.
