The original gilded decoration of the dome was lost as a result of damp penetration in the 1940s. It was regilded in 2010 as part of the major refurbishment. During the course of this work, the original stencil decoration was uncovered and has been recreated as you see it today. #London #LondonDaysOut #HistoricHouse #Office #Dress #History #HollandPark #Inspiration #InteriorDesign #HistoricInterior #InteriorsOfInstagram #GardenInspiration #OldHouse #VictorianHouse #leightonhouse #westlondon Beautiful Lights, Beautiful Homes, Leighton House Museum, Garden Inspiration, Design Inspiration, Large Hallway, Pool Fountain, Holland Park, Inglenook

Most of the tiles in the Arab Hall were produced in Damascus in the late 16th century and acquired by Lord Leighton during a series of visits to the Middle East. During a visit to Damascus in 1873 Leighton was helped by the Reverend William Wright, a missionary an amateur archaeologist who spoke Arabic And knew the city well. They sort out the textiles, tiles and objects and according to Wright “Leighton was able to lay the foundations of his fine collection” #London #LondonDaysOut #Historic Earth Design, Pre Raphaelite

Lord Leighton visited Egypt on more than one occasion and it was here that he acquired the pierced screens that are displayed over both windows in the Arab hall and the overhanging box window above your head. These are called mashrabiyyas and each screen is assembled from many individual pieces of hand turned pinewood #London #LondonDaysOut #HistoricHouse #Office #Dress #History #HollandPark #Inspiration #InteriorDesign #HistoricInterior #InteriorsOfInstagram #GardenInspiration #OldHouse Box Window, Visit Egypt

The stuffed peacock on the stairs at this gorgeous house encapsulates the feel of the interior. Quirky, richly coloured and exotic. The Peacock the purchase on the cabinet presides over the space keeping an eye on the goings on and its trademark colour replicated in the deep blue tiles on the wall. #London #LondonDaysOut #HistoricHouse #Office #Dress #History #HollandPark #Inspiration #InteriorDesign #HistoricInterior #taxidermy #GardenInspiration #OldHouse #VictorianHouse Gorgeous Houses

I totally fell in love with this gorgeous blue. Sitting somewhere between teal, petrol blue and peacock blue these tiles have a depth to them. In this very grand house, with the most beautiful furnishings from this eclectic collector, Lord Leighton, sits a bit of whimsy in this taxidermy Peacock. The hallway, in which it states, is covered in the most beautiful deep blue turquoise, almost peacock blue tiles. The Peacock presides over the space and for me, firmly roots the space in the Victorian love of all things natural history. #London #LondonDaysOut #HistoricHouse #Office #Dress #History #HollandPark #Inspiration #InteriorDesign

Lord Leighton wanted a house that could reflect his new-found standing in an ever increasing artistic Victorian world. Intimate friends might be invited to spend the evening in the dining room, a red jewelled box hung with glittering middle eastern ceramics and set off by crimson floorboards. #London #LondonDaysOut #HistoricHouse #Office #Dress #History #HollandPark #Inspiration #InteriorDesign #HistoricInterior #InteriorsOfInstagram #GardenInspiration #OldHouse #VictorianHouse #leightonhouse

I am totally in love with these gorgeous deep teal tiles. They lined the hallway floor to ceiling at Leighton House Museum, and are simply breathtaking. Glazed, with a kind of mottled finish, they seem to glisten and gleam in the space. Hugely opulent and a real showstopper days. #London #LondonDaysOut #HistoricHouse #Office #Dress #History #HollandPark #Inspiration #InteriorDesign #HistoricInterior #InteriorsOfInstagram #GardenInspiration #OldHouse #VictorianHouse #leightonhouse #westlondon Hallway Flooring
