I like the store ideas and the ledge to sit outside. Also, like the bins for water play in the sandbox. The cover wouldn't withstand our windy environment. But would need a shade cover and a sandbox cover. Kona Sandbox with Canopy by KidKraft

Great idea. My dad built a similar base     but added posts at the corners (and wood connecting the posts at the top to     support a chicken wire roof. He wrapped a chicken wire fence around the base     for walls .  It had a little latching door and we could stand up in it. It was     open to the element but cats and rodents couldn't get in. We know how cats     love sand boxes.
