Ancient Rome - One half of the frescoed triclinium from the House of Livia, Rome. Note how from a sitting height the fence in the frescoes appears to continue in a straight line beyond the walls of the room. Such dramatic trompe l'oeil techniques were typical of frescoes in the "Second Style" known from Pompeii. The room is now reconstructed in the National Museum of Rome, Palazzo Massimo. 30-20 BC.

'Seraphina' by Natasha Mann. The inspiration behind my design is traditional Moroccan painting known as Zouaq. It is based on the biomorphic shapes of the curves, spirals and entwined forms found in nature, as well as geometric patterns from Islamic art. The different designs stem from a 12 pointed flower, which is a number often represented in the natural world and sacred art.
