Janet Collins, the first black prima ballerina of the Metropolitan Opera House in the early 1950's. I had the opportunity to interview her and perform her legacy for a middle school history competition.
Bessie Love (1898-1986) - Oscar-nominated actress and playright. Born Juanita Horton, she was given her screen name by D.W. Griffith. Acted in her first film in 1916 ("Aquitted") and her last in 1983 ("The Hunger"). Performed the first "Charleston" dance on-screen in 1925.
