This is a good way to introduce students and build community in the classroom. It is good for the beginning of the year so students can feel welcome and get to know each other. This aligns with the NYS teaching standard Element IV.1: Teachers create a mutually respectful, safe, supportive learning environment that is inclusive of every student.
