Evening Dress, 1864. A dress in the crinoline style. The embroidery is arranged over the skirt. The bodice, the waist, and the panels on the back of the skirt are trimmed with delicate fringes. During the 19th century, men’s fashion became functional and in-ornate, while women’s wardrobes appeared more lavish than ever. Trimming like fringes, tassels and braids (“passementerie”) that required a lot of attention to detail appeared in numerous variations.
