PRINCE PLATON ALEXANDROVICH ZUBOV (1767 – 1822) by Johann Lebrecht Eggink. Last lover of CATHERINE THE GREAT. Only 22 when he became 60 year old Catherine's lover, she nicknamed him 'Babe”. She was so crazy about him that she gave him even more power than she had given Potemkin. Nearly everyone else at court regarded him as capricious and unstable. When Catherine died TSAR PAUL I banished him to Europe. He died in ignominity at Rundale Palace in Latvia in 1822.
