Leaders of nonprofit social service organizations are seeing benefits from cross-sector collaborations with government partners as they work to reduce persistent health inequities in their communities.

Users, audiences and customers are not the same as communities. The former exclusively participate as consumers. However, community members are collaborators, contributing to the ecosystem. It’s a distinction between active participation and passivity. Community members must unite over something other than the community leader. Through consistent many-to-many interactions, the focus shifts from a single individual, alternate connections form and everyone feels empowered.
