Hello and welcome to my little stop on the Scrap-Applique Book-A-Round. I don’t know about you guys, but I get very attached to my appliqué fabrics. I don’t know exactly why but when I am getting to the end of one of my favorites I get very stingy with it….and a tiny bit sad. I have a little pile of bits that I just can’t throw away but I don’t know what to use them for. Well, Kay Mackenzie has come to my rescue with her new book Scrap-Applique Playground. She is just so clever! This book is…
When I am doing a complicated appliqué block like Miss Hannah I find it saves a bunch of time if I pre-assemble my flowers before I baste them onto the background. This allows me to adjust the position of the flower easily when I am doing the final basting (instead of moving 9 petals I just move one flower). So, my friends, here is a little tutorial on how I do this. Trace your flower from the pattern onto a small sheet of paper Here is my pattern Make all the needed shapes Put down you…

Hello Everyone I hope you have not given up on me as I have been away from the blog for a while. I assure you I have been busy working on new designs and playing with video's too. Today I am starting a new series of posts I am calling Appliqué Lessons. This is just a brief primer on my preferred method of appliqué which is sometimes called “starch and press”. I LOVE this method of appliqué because it gives you a lot of control over your shapes and I can sometimes be a little, shall we say, anal about things. I designed a block that demonstrates a variety of techniques I use in my designs to help you learn this method of appliqué. (You can download it here) This is my…

I've always loved to create flowers in applique techniques and so way back in 2013 I started creating a new applique flower block every Friday. This adventure continued every week of the entire year thus amounting to 52 different flower blocks. Since then, I've added several more and my plan this year is to add even more.... and so the journey began.
