Earlier this year, our home received a much-needed update: new windows. With new windows (hallelujah), comes the need for updated trim. I wanted a custom trim look but when I started to price out thick decorative trim, expenses added up quickly. Our home is pretty old which comes with unlevel surfaces and different measurements. We use primed pine 1”x4” boards to keep costs down. If you want to save even more you can buy unprimed and use an oil based primer to prime the knots. Then the trick is to buy 1/4” x 1 1/8” boards to trim around your pine. It edges out the window so nicely and gives it an elevated look. The difference is in the before & after!
