Louis Sullivan had an outsized impact on the future of architecture, inspiring contemporaries and followers alike to embrace the styles that would come to define Chicago.

Louis H. Sullivan was an architect during the Industrialization of Europe. He designed the first auditorium in America in Chicago called the Auditorium Building. It was a hotel and opera house that featured new indoor decor made in factories to represents floral styles. This is one of the first buildings to heavily feature artificial lighting.

This is one of the most important works of one of the most important architects of the late 19th century. It's the Guaranty Building, in Buffalo, NY, designed by none other than Louis Sullivan, recognized as one of the three top architects the US has ever seen.

Louis Sullivan, often called the "father of skyscrapers," is credited with coining the phrase "Form ever follows function." This principle became a cornerstone of modern architecture, emphasizing that a building's shape should be primarily based upon its intended purpose. Sullivan's work, including the Wainwright Building and the Guaranty Building, exemplifies this ideology. By allowing functionality to dictate design, Sullivan aimed to create honest, efficient structures.
