This was an assignment for school. We had to make a poster that was would capture the style of a certain era of graphic design. I was inspired by the illustrated books of later Middle Ages, particularly Biblica pauperum (Pauper's Bible). I also included my own interpretation of the Danse Macabre, which was a common theme in religious art. In this project 15 monsters were illustrated by hand, inspired by Medieval art. In Medieval illumination the light seems to radiate out from the objects.This is evident not only in the heyday of Flemish and Burgundian illumination, but also in works from the late Middle Ages, like Mozarabic illuminations, a play of violent colour contrasts between yellow and red or blue. They were called Mons - off because they reject conventional beauty standards which define monsters as ugly.
