A fairy circle/ring is when there mushrooms/fungus found in a circle. It apprently comes when a fairy or elf appear

This was taken last year, but I'd appreciate an explanation as to why they grow like this. This was one of many 'mushroom circles' that we encountered on a walk from St Govans Car Park to the Stack Rocks Car Park on the Castlemartin Firing Range. They ranges from half a metre to at least 5 metres in diameter.
