Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī, more commonly known as Rumi, was a 13th-century Persian poet, scholar, theologian, and mystic who is widely regarded as one of the most influential poets in the world. Rumi was born in 1207 in the city of Balkh, in what is now Afghanistan, but he spent most of his life in the city of Konya, in present-day Turkey. He was a prolific writer, and his works include poetry, prose, and letters. His most famous works are the Mathnawi and the Diwan-e Shams-e Tabrizi.
