Jonny Andvik: Fossegrimen. The Fossegrimen is a spirit who lives in waterfalls and is neither good nor evil - unlike his kinsman, the Nøkken who is both dangerous and clever. The Fossegrimen is a magnificent musician who plays the fiddle day and night. If an aspiring fiddle player ventures to seek his help, the Fossegrimen will gladly help, for a price of course. He must go to the waterfall and offer the Fossegrimen a nice meal, usually a good plump joint of meat. Water Spirit, Water Nymphs, Ways Of Seeing, Naha, Handsome Man, Norse Mythology, Folk Tales, Old Master, Magical Creatures

In Scandinavian folklore it was believed that if you waved your hand in front of the door to the house or barn, in the shape of a ring - it was protected by magic from evil entities lurking in the woods. No tools needed, only the deep belief and connection to powers of ancestral and spirit work.

The ring is a very important and powerful symbol of magic in Scandinavian witchcraft and folklore both before christian times and after. And it continues to be.
It was a portal, a protection, a transformation, a promise and an honor.

Tools were ever seldom used in pre-Christian witchcraft in Scandinavia, mostly the magic was created with our bodies. 🙌🏻
