Twist, Shout, and Shake it All About! Celebrating the 50th day of School!

One day I will figure out how to be a regular blogger - that day has not come yet. Anyway - today was our 50th day of school! I can't believe we already reached it! We celebrate the 50th day of school in a big, fun, and exciting way - 1950's style! The kids dress to impress in their 50's best and we twist and shout and shake it all about while learning throughout the day! There are tons of freebies on TpT for the 50th day of school - just search it in their search box! I do not have any 50th day items in my store because the ones available on TpT already are so fabulous! Here are some highlights from our 50th day of kindergarten! Sock Hop & Hula-Hooping! We compare and contrast the 50's to now. We talk about the dances that they used to have and toys they used to use. The kids love it because in the 50's they used Lincoln Logs & we play with those in our classroom during Fun Friday! For our Sock Hop & Hula-Hooping - we all head to the gym. We put on some 50's music and we spend time twisting and shouting and trying our best to hula - hoop! Bubble Contest - we see if the kids can blow a bubble! They each get gum (that I watch them spit out later...) and we try to blow a bubble! We graph who can blow a bubble and who can't. We make a fun craft to go along with it! Root-Beer Floats! We make our predictions - will the ice-cream sink or float! We graph it. Then we get to enjoy the floats and observe what the ice-cream does! How fun! Those are just a few of the MANY highlights of 50's day. I would love to hear how you celebrate the 50th day at your school!!

A Peek at My Week and 100th Day of School!!!

Last week, we celebrated being 100 days smarter! It was the 100th day of school, which is so hard to believe that the year is more than halfway over! After our reading block was over, we did all things 100! We always make these sweet little ladies and gentlemen! {I am not even sure whose original these idea these were, since they're everywhere now!} This is one of the funniest things we do all year! I just love reading what they come up with! Cara Carroll has the cutest 100th Day Freebie, so we used those stations for our math block. They were super easy to prep! We didn't have time to do all of them, so I adapted it down to five stations. I have to say that even second graders had a blast with those stations! They giggled and laughed, and they didn't want to stop playing! These were a couple of the books we read. We also read 100 Snowmen, which was super cute! I rotated these posters around to each table. I gave each table 5 minutes to add as many things as they could think of. We did 100 things I've learned, 100 acts of kindness, 100 math problems, and 100 words I know. This week will be all about penguins and place value. Here are the links to each of the resources I will be using: Penguin Chick Supplemental Pack Penguin Directed Drawing Penguin Craftivity from Waddle With Me: A Penguin Unit Penguin Bottle Craft Paired Comprehension Passages Adjectives No-Prep Mini-Pack My class needs to revisit place value before we move on to triple-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping. I am using my Place Value Learning Centers for partner practice. I will just rotate each center each day between five groups. Amy Lemons' s place value unit is full of great activities, so I will be using the rest of that for independent practice. Here are links to the resources for math: Place Value Learning Centers {Hundreds, Tens, and Ones} Playing Around with Place Value I am linking up with Mrs. Wills' Kindergarten with everyone else sharing their plans! I hope y'all have a great week!!!
