The Truth About Training Collars: Choke collars appear to be the more humane collar but they literally choke the dog temporarily and can cause very serious damage to the trachea. Prong collars, on the other hand, while they appear inhumane, are not damaging IF used correctly; the prongs pinch the puppy's neck, mimicking what the puppy's mother did when teaching her pups.
