Kitty approved laptop keyboard
The tray should fit a laptop and a cat. I bough this handy little keyboard to my iPad Mini. Test using it here. Our Aby girl Pipsa did what cats do when you try to write - jumped on the laptop tray (in my lap) and now the keyboard is kitty approved. Small enough to fit both the cat and the book I am working on... #cats #Abyssinian #amwriting #writerslife #LeenaMaria #leenasbooks #iPadMini
Book and Pyramid
Pyramid view from the window. I was reading a book at our hotel in Giza. I looked up from the book and there it was - the Great Pyramid of Giza in haze... I took a photo of the view so I could return to the view later. In the water bottle is a flower bouquet our guide gave to me when he met us at the airport. #Egypt #amwriting #pyramid #Giza #GreatPyramid #amwriting #amreading
Doing research in Egypt
A writer of historical fiction needs to know the subject... As all my fantasy books are connected to ancient Egypt, of course I need to go to Egypt. Here I am saying hello to the Red Pyramid - the first real straight pyramid in Egypt. #Egypt #amwriting #pyramid #AncientEgypt #research #novels
What the cat thinks of writing...
I was planning on writing. Pipsa was planning on other things. Pipsa won. For some reason me sitting down to type with my computer seems to be an invitation for the cats to come and demand attention. (Of you click on the link, you are taken to the post on my reader group on Facebook.)
I write novels but I also paint. I've had art exhibitions of my own. Right now I paint just for the joy of it. This is a "miniature" painting I am working on. It is a big board (46 x 61 cm / 24 x 28") filled with tiny details...
Akhenaten with Sunglasses
So I was reading a book about Akhenaten (in preparation for my MA in Egyptology studies - and to check information for my novels). Summer holiday, warm day at the summer cottage. I was lying on the pier and took a break. I took off my sunglasses and put them down on the book cover so they would not fall into the sea. Then I noticed where I put them: on the face of the pharaoh who worshiped the light of the sun, the Aten. Pretty hilarious :)
Books in the bathroom
In my childhood home we had a #bookshelf in the bathroom as well. So I suppose it is no a great surprise that I have books in the bathroom. And as my #novels have the ancient #egyptian theme, many of the books are about #Egyptology.
Searching for a bookstore in Fuengirola, Spain, on a holiday. Found this little corner shop - Hemingway & Co Bookshop and got my summer reading. Cannot go on holiday if I don't have a book to read. #bookstore #book #Summerreading #amreading #bookshop
Here is my pile of books I'll be reading this summer in preparation for my MA of Egyptology studies. Some books are missing, as they are still in the mail coming my way. That's 4 days per book. Now do you wonder why my novels have the common theme of ancient Egypt? :)
Bookreading in Cairo 2018
Here I am reading from my book Tutankhamun in my Own Hieroglyphs at the American University in Cairo bookstore. A busload of school children came - and boy did they ask good questions! They were so cute - could have taken them all home with me! (And yes - there is a typo on my name on the banderol, but never mind - all the versions of my name are probably quite a mouthful to anyone who isn't Finnish :D )
My Egyptology books (some of them)
I had to buy a bookcase just for my Egyptology books. As you can see, there are already books on top of it. And not all of the books are here. Piles add up... But at least I have lots of reference books when I do research for my novels.
