Now here's a delightful little thing. This is a house for Aalto's brother Väinö, who rejected an earlier, nakedly Palladian scheme for whatever reason. Its grand temple front remains in the final design, but squooshed down to one-third of the width of the facade, and mysteriously slid over to one end of the building (as at the Workers' Club) such that it seems particularly overscaled and grandiose. It practically feels like the house is an addition to the portico rather than the other way…

Parish centre building. Humble but effective. I think it's used by the same congregation as the Engel church which it faces, so the humble scale is entirely appropriate for a support building...sunday school, small ceremonies, all that kind of stuff? Introductory text here.
