Charles Linn was born Karl Eric Engelbert Sjödahl in Pojo parish, west of Helsingfors, Finland on June 13th, 1814. He died in Birmingham, Alabama on August 7th, 1882. His father Erik Johan Sjödahl was an inspector at the ironworks in Billnäs.
