1883 Russian Jewish Man's Tallith or Tallit at the Glenbow Museum, Calgary - From the curators' comments: "Israel Ziselman, an Orthodox Jew, received his finely woven wool tallit (prayer shawl) at his bar mitzvah (coming of age celebration) in Russia in 1883. The tallit is fringed at the four corners to serve as a memory guide for observing the commandments. Ziselman left the Byelorussian district of Russia for Canada in 1901, and settled in Calgary in 1908."
