In North America, disabled people of all kinds are marginalized. We dart our eyes away and try not to stare as we see the handicapped on busses, in shopping malls or at restaurants. We don’t welcome them into our “normal” world because they make us feel uncomfortable, and as a result we feel like it’s okay to treat them as less than human.

Early in the film, Pertti Kurikka explains: Writing a diary is important to me. I can release my anger. It is especially helpful to have a bad day. I’ll write in my diary that Pertti is a shithead, that Pertti is an asshole and that Pertti is a faggot and a shit-goddamn-asshole. Pertti will be stabbed. Pertti will be punched in the face. Pertti will be strangled to death.

Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivien punkhuuto ilmaisee saman, minkä Edvard Munchin tunnetumpi Huuto – vaikkei yhtyeen keikoista makseta yhdeksääkymmentä miljoonaa. The Rasmus voi laulaa, että I’m A Mess, mutta The Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät tietää, mitä se tarkoittaa.
