Marsh marigold is an important sign of spring. Started some of these from seed yesterday, not sure how things will go.
Bloodroot - Sanguinaria canadensis ON native - blooms in deep shade in early spring
May Apples Don't Grow on Trees
May Apples Don't Grow on Trees May Apples grow in moist shady areas and are native to the U.S. and Canada. They are actually an herb and the fruit is eaten by wildlife. Great spring foliage for part shade
This photo, taken on July 2 is of the Ontario native Prickly Pear Cactus - Opuntia humifusa. Its large range and extraordinary drought tolerance make it a great choice for a xerophytic (drought tolerant) landscape. It's fascinating, even in winter, and offers great drought tolerance. Very underused. If you want your garden to stand out, this is your plant...even in part-shade.
