"Lotta Svärd" was a women's auxiliary organization in Finland that began about the time of World War I, and by World War II was the largest group of its kind in the world (impressive for a nation of four million!)  A Lotta's assigned duties could include taking care of horses, nursing, aircraft lookout, and cooking.

Baron Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim (4 June 1867 – 27 January 1951) was the military leader of the Whites in the Finnish Civil War, Commander-in-Chief of Finland's Defence Forces during World War II, Marshal of Finland, and a Finnish statesman. He was Regent of Finland (1918–1919) and the sixth President of Finland (1944–1946).

Between 1939 and 1945, the Finnish fought three wars: two against the USSR and one against Germany. The largest raids against the city were the three in February 1944, they were so severe they have been called the Great Raids.

Финские солдаты возле трофейных советских 152-мм пушек-гаубиц МЛ-20 в Порлампи («Котел» у деревни Порлампи/Porlammen motti, под Выборгом). Во время советско-финской войны финнами было захвачено 22 гаубицы этого типа. В 1941-1944 годах финнами захвачено еще 37 орудий. В финской армии МЛ-20 именовалась 152 H/37. Интересная история.

Остров Мартинсаари (Martinsaari, в настоящее время остров Малый Пограничный), расположенный в северо-восточной части Финского залива. На касках солдат вручную нанесен символ молнии, являвшийся неуставным знаком…
