From drawing to making a mold to casting. But even after a piece is cast, it has to be cleaned up. Raw cast brass looks scary. What you see here is Belgravia’s drawing, the mold for the base, and a cleaned up cast brass base. But look at the just cleaned up brass. There are steps that give Oxshott Collection’s candlestand base “good bones”. The divisions and the layering you see in the base are first captured in the interim wooden mold. These details are transferred to a carbon dioxide hardened silica mold (excellent mold for lostwax like quality). Because of these efforts the details get baked into the metal during sand casting. Any attempt to create the details post casting will result in a quality deficiency. #oxshottcollection

At this point we are working on Rostrato Glass, Rock Crystal Glass, Selenite Glass. Below are some new hurricane shades for our Federal Sconce and our Candlestands. We will be soon also introducing a V shaped tapered glass shade with a manually folded lip on the top edge.

Lotus SA-1451-01C01 Starts as raw sand casting (brass). It then goes through chasing, engraving and hand chiseling. Next, it is machined, polished and plated. After assembly, it is paired with glass shades that have a hand-crafted lip (fold) on the top edge. From where it started, it is now something very different. But wait, we are adding more glass shades (a bigger tapered glass). Shades in clear and shades in color. I was once offered the Argand lamp you see here. It had damage, parts missing, and did not have its pair. I passed, but today I regret that decision. I will make it (one day). A pair for myself, maybe a few extra and donate it to some far distant museum. Someone has to keep the memory alive.
