The design of the house allows for as much natural light as possible. High ceilings and large windows generally allow us to have the lights off until sundown. Thick walls and dual-glazed windows were used to improve insulation.
The red brick was hard and lifeless before. A limewash (paint diluted with water and mixed with sand) softened up the harsh brick. If I had an ugly red brick house I would certainly do this to it. I hate red brick.
This Italian country manor was once an spinning mill, remodeled into an antique-studded, parkland dream home. See photos of the Friuli house, designed by architect Michele Bonon and Florentine landscape designer Nicolo Grassi, that has us drooling.
