Ella Hatton (1854- ) known as "La Jaguarina," "Champion Amazon of the Age” fought men in various types of sword play contests. Her most memorable battle was in San Diego in 1888 against a Captain Weidermann. The Jaguarina-Weidermann Battle was a broadsword contest on horseback, which she won. She won 134 out of 135 bouts. In 2009 she was inducted into the U.S. Fencing Association’s Hall of Fame.
