Jun Kaneko in his Omaha, Nebraska studio/kiln, working on one of his massive dango (“dumpling”) ceramic pieces.

Came across this stunning image today of sculptor Jun Kaneko. Not only is the stone sculpture compelling but look at him working in this space. I realized immediately that this must be the same artist we where adoring on our.

Jun Kaneko working on one of his colossal pieces. This gives you some idea of the size of many of his works including his "Dangos." These huge pieces must dry for a year and are fired for about three months. His work can be seen in a number of museums.

Porcelain Sculptures Inspired by English and Japanese Botanics by Hitomi Hosono (Colossal)

I wonder if the artist had a picture of what it would look like and his/her mind and just ended up finding out through trial and error that Q-tips works the best, or were they just really bored and messing with Q-tips.

Drawing botanicals is meditative and oh so satisfying. But sculpting them the way Hitomi Hosono does, is downright obsessive.
