Curiosity's Travels Through Sol 56. This map shows the route driven by NASA's Mars rover Curiosity through the 56th Martian day, or sol, of the rover's mission on Mars (Oct. 2, 2012). The route starts where the rover touched down, a site subsequently named Bradbury Landing. The white line extending toward the right (eastward) from Bradbury Landing is the rover's path so far, and the green line shows its planned future route.

NASA - 'Yellowknife Bay' Veins and Concretions.  Curiosity Mars rover provided this view of the lower stratigraphy at "Yellowknife Bay" inside Gale Crater on Mars. The rectangle superimposed on the left image shows the location of the enlarged portion on the right.  In the right image, white arrows point to veins and black arrows point to concretions (small spherical concentrations of minerals). Both veins and concretions strongly suggest precipitation of minerals from water. 12/24/2012

Scarlatti has ring of peaks at its center, typical in many respects, although in the northeast section, it transitions to a large (approximately 19 miles or 30 km) pit surrounded by high-reflectance material. Past explosive volcanic activity may have created this pit. �014 Tom Chao
