Researchers are attempting to create an Earth-size virtual instrument called the Event Horizon Telescope; a worldwide network of radio telescopes powerful enough to snap a picture of the supermassive black hole at the heart of our Milky Way galaxy.

THE MAJESTIC SOMBRERO GALAXY 28 million light years from earth and light years across . Photo By: NASA Hubble Space Telescope.-- Wow, that is an amazingly large galaxy! I love how this photo has it appearing on an angle.
Astronomers have discovered a spectacular tail of gas more than light years across coming from a nearby galaxy. The plume is made up of hydrogen gas -- the material new stars are made of -- and is five times longer than the galaxy itself.
