William H. Johnson This is the artist I was assigned to learn about for "Occupy Facebook with Art." After living in Paris as a Painter, Johnson, who was an African American artist from South Carolina, returned to the south to paint the local landscape in 1930. He was arrested while painting "The Jacobia Hotel", a local brothel, for loitering. This experience left such a bad taste in his mouth that he did not return to the South for another sixteen years.
