SOC-ECON The safety features of the Model T were abysmal. The automobile featured pane glass and a rigid steering column. Car accidents commonly featured severe lacerations to the driver caused by the front windscreen, and impalement to the face or torso caused by the rigid steering column. Horrific injuries such as these spurred automakers to consider crash scenarios. In 1930, shortly after the discontinuation of the Model T, laminated glass was finally applied by Ford to its automobiles.
