Bog plants These colorful, lush plants, which include Cattails and Irises, grow in the shallow water or saturated soil around the rim or margins of a pond. Bog plants tend to be heavy root feeders that search for nutrients primarily from soil or potting media. While they rely minimally on pond water for nutrients, bog plants improve water quality by extracting excess detrimental nutrients from the pond environment before they can accumulate.

Hay Bale. Love the smell of hay. Walked into my shed the other day & it's a smell mix of hay, leather, feeds & gasoline (seedeater, chainsaw, etc). Best smell in the world ;)

The common cattail (typha latifolia) is one of the first of the wild edible plants that all hikers should familiarize themselves with. It not only has several edible parts, but there is some part of the plant that can be harvested for food during any season. In addition, it has other uses as well.

I love cattails. Always have. We used to pick them while they were still firm, scrape off the brown fuzz and color them with crayons.
