✨ Emile Gallé - Iris & Dragonflies Cameo Glass Vase, c. 1885-1900 /// Flattened elongated baluster form, amber yellow shading to a pale gray frosted ground, overlaid in azure, olive green, and emerald, depicting two large dragonflies hovering above a pond scene with blossoming irises and water lilies, signed “Galle” in cameo, height 33 3/8 in. Note: By family repute, this vase was exhibited at the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle.
Émile Gallé (1846-1904) was a French artist who worked in glass in Nancy and is considered to be one of the major forces in the French Art Nouveau movement. He continued to incorporate experimental techniques into his work and revitalized the glass industry by establishing a workshop to mass-produce his and other artists, designs. The factory would employ 300 workers and artisans at its height and remained in operation until 1936.
