Building empathy is important for students' wellbeing because when they are relating to someone else's situation, they are being immersed into the story. children's books about immigration -- walk a mile in someone else's shoes!
poverty in the developed world doesn’t look like a refugee child with flies on their face. it looks like a normal person in normal clothes, in a normal apartment, with their bills spread out on the kitchen table, crying.
I wish everyone could see this picture because yes we are all ONE HUMAN RACE. It shouldn't matter religion, skin color, languages spoken, country's that we live in. We are ONE HUMAN RACE.
Refugees arriving in the U. come with a wide variety of educational and linguistic backgrounds. Some have no formal educational experience and come eager to learn basics like how to use a pencil and introduce themselves in English.
