Eagle nebula. This cloud of dust and gasses has a length of 9.5 light-years. That's twice the distance from the sun to it's neighbours in the Alpha Centauri system. New stars are born in clouds like these.

The Eagle Has Risen: Stellar Spire in the Eagle Nebula. A billowing tower of gas and dust rises from the stellar nursery known as the Eagle Nebula. This small piece of the Eagle Nebula is 57 trillion miles long trillion km).

This stellar swarm is M80 (NGC 6093), one of the densest of the 147 known globular star clusters in the Milky Way galaxy. Located about 28,000 light-years from Earth, M80 contains hundreds of thousands of stars, all held together by their mutual gravitational attraction. Globular clusters are particularly useful for studying stellar evolution, since all of the stars in the cluster have the same age (about 15 billion years), but cover a range of stellar masses.

They all go into the dark, the vacant interstellar spaces, the vacant into the vacant. Eliot, from The Complete Poems And Plays: 1909 - “Four Quartets”

The Universe And Your Place In It i pinned this on my history board but could also be science i guess:

The Universe And Your Place In It

The universe is a wondrous place. The first point is catchy, but not strictly correct. Complex atoms that constitute part of your substance had to be created in late-stage stellar collapse, sometimes in stars several generations old.

The Lagoon Nebula ~ captured in all its psychedelic glory by the Gemini Observatory in Hawaii. An all-time favorite of sky-watchers on both hemispheres, the Lagoon Nebula (Messier 8, or M8) is among the most striking examples of a stellar nursery in our neighborhood of the Milky Way galaxy. Located in the direction of the constellation Sagittarius in the southern Milky Way and visible in telescopes and binoculars its fuzzy glow reveals the type of chaotic environment where new stars are…
