Villa Mairea is a villa, guest-house, and rural retreat designed and built by the Finnish modernist architect Alvar Aalto for Harry and Mai.

Villa Mairea 1938-39. There is only one window in the north elevation of the staff and guest wing, belonging to the staff. The spare, Modernist form changes very sensitively in the canopy leading to the sauna. The wooden details and the stone wall act as mediators.
