Loyalists were American colonists who were loyal to British crown during the American Revolutionary War. Many Loyalists were wealthy merchants and former officials of the royal government. Most Loyalists lived in the Middle Colonies and the South than New England. Sir Henry Clinton hoped that if British troops went through South, Loyalists would join them. Loyalists were part of one of the best armies in the world (at the time).

Loyalist were colonist that were loyal to the British during the Revolutionary War. The colonist remained loyal to the ruler. Loyalist continued to believe that the British would win the war.
