Classic vinegar-based Eastern North Carolina BBQ sauce ~ 1 cup apple cider vinegar, 1 Tbsp dark brown sugar, 1 Tbsp ketchup, 2 tsp Texas Pete hot sauce, 1/2 tsp ea. red pepper flakes, ground black pepper, & kosher salt. Place all ingredients in small, non-reactive sauce pan & bring to a simmer until sugar & salt dissolve. Cool to room temperature & refrigerate. *UPDATE: Made this with changes: used 1/2 cup each vinegar & apple juice, 1/4 cup ketchup, added 1 tsp garlic. Pretty darn good!
