Sometimes, it's all about your perspective. Photographer Menno Aden used this concept to create Room Portraits, a series of aerial photos of everyday spaces that look extraordinary when seen from above.

The dominate line is vertical. It makes the room feel taller, but trash and oddly placed items remove the benefit of height to the room. To improve the room, i would clear the middle space out and put in more horizontal lines.
