Riding Habit, ca. 1760-75. British. The pictured jacket is made of silk and goat hair. It was originally made for women when they were riding a horse (source of the name Riding Habit). In England the jacket was called a Riding Habit and the French adopted the same style jacket but called it a Redingote.   The Metropolitan Museum of Art
