CATERINA CORNARO was born in 1454 in San Cassiano, a Venetian palace overlooking the Grand Canal. Caterina married the king of Cyprus in Venice (1468). She joined her husband on the island in 1472, where she was crowned Queen of Cyprus, Jerusalem and Armenia. Upon death of James II in 1473 and her young son James III in 1474, Caterina Cornaro governed Cyprus until 1489. She surrendered her kingdom to the Doge, obtaining in exchange the land of Asolo.The queen died in 1510 in San Cassiano…

Pinturicchio | La Madonna col Bambino leggente è un dipinto a olio su tavola, 33,7×25,4cm, databile al 1494-1498 circa e conservato nel North Carolina Museum of Art di Raleigh. Gesù, che è colto nell'atto di leggere le Sacre Scritture, ha la compostezza di un adulto, sottolineata dalla veste da piccolo redentore, con una dalmatica e un pallio che vennero forse visti nei mosaici bizantini a Roma, in antitesi con gli esili veli coevi della scuola umbra e toscana.
