A new publication by Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, Poland, shows photographs taken in extermination camp during World War II alongside pictures of same locations today. The book, Auschwitz-Birkenau. The Place Where You Are Standing, contains 31 wartime pictures, matched to their present-day locations. It has been published in Polish and English versions by the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.

This is a great photograph taken in 1919. The picture shows a group of women committing to rather extreme measures in support of the temperance movement. The temperance movement was an effort in the 1910's in the United States to reduce alcohol consumption. It actually led to Prohibition.

Prohibition: Women like this would come together because they were against alcohol and drinking. They would make up mottos like "Lips that touch liquor shall not touch ours", stating that they will have no interest in anybody who drinks.
