A RAY OF LIGHT. We've seen this amazing halo effect just a couple of days ago from the Pallastunturi Fell in Northern Lapland. The effect happens when the light is reflected in the icy particles in the athmosphere. On that day it was -25 degrees!
These are light pillars, caused by ice crystals in the air which intercept urban lights and spread them into colorful columns. No solar activity is required for the phenomenon. The only ingredients are ice and light pollution.
